Who Qualifies
Third-party reseller certification is for brands and retailers that sell finished products made with certified Hatch chile but who are not themselves processors. This includes private-label products, specialty food brands, and retailers sourcing certified Hatch products from licensed processors. All Hatch-origin ingredients must trace back to certified Hatch Valley growers.
Annual License Fees
Reseller licensing fees are tiered by the annual volume of certified Hatch chile product sold:
- $250/year — 1 to 9,999 lbs of certified product
- $500/year — 10,000 to 19,999 lbs of certified product
- $1,000/year — 20,000 lbs or more of certified product
Fees are assessed at the time of application based on projected annual volume and recalculated at each annual renewal based on actual prior-year sales.
Requirements
- Certified Hatch chile sourcing. Products sold under the HATCH seal must be made with chile sourced from Association-certified processors or growers. Resellers must be able to document this chain of custody.
- Labeling compliance. All uses of the seal must follow the Association's labeling guidelines. The seal identifies Hatch-grown origin; it may not be used in any way that implies a broader Association endorsement of the product or brand.
- Non-transferable license. The license applies only to the named reseller and the certified product lines specified in the application. It may not be assigned or sublicensed to third parties.
What the Seal Does — and Does Not — Mean
The Certified Hatch seal on a reseller product verifies that the chile in that product was grown in the Hatch Valley of New Mexico. It is an origin mark, not an endorsement. The Association does not evaluate, rate, or endorse the quality, taste, or formulation of any finished product.
Annual Renewal
Reseller licenses last one year and are non-renewable by default — resellers must apply for renewal each year. Renewal requires updated volume figures and confirmation of continued compliance with sourcing and labeling requirements.
